RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A top Democratic Virginia lawmaker vowed Wednesday to keep language enabling a proposed relocation by the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals to Alexandria out of the state budget lawmakers will take up later this week. Glenn Youngkin's plan to lure the teams across the Potomac River with a $2 billion development district featuring a new arena. Moving forward, if the arena is excluded from the budget, Youngkin has a few options. Virginia governors have the ability to seek amendments to legislation, so he could attempt to put the arena language back in the budget. Democrats, who control both General Assembly chambers, could lose Youngkin’s support for some of their own priorities if they kill the arena deal.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Democratic Virginia legislative candidate whose race was rattled by the revelation that she and her husband livestreamed themselves having sex moved forward with her campaign Tuesday and drew some early support in the high-stakes contest. But state Sen. L. Louise Lucas, a leading Democratic lawmaker in Virginia, quickly came to her defense, calling on voters to “make this the biggest fundraising day of (Gibson's) campaign.” Many women voters retweeted Lucas with a link to donate to Gibson's campaign. Linton said she plans to donate another $100 to Gibson's campaign even though she can't vote for her because she lives outside her district. Mark Rozell, dean of George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, said the sex videos are a huge distraction from Gibson's campaign. But Monica Hutchinson, a legislative coordinator for a youth justice organization, said she supported Gibson before the videos surfaced and she will continue to support her.

The following chart shows how many individual income tax returns there were for tax year 2020 by adjusted gross income. In contrast, there were over 30 million returns with adjusted gross income from $50,000 to under $100,000 and just about 30 million returns with adjusted gross income of $30,000 to under $50,000.
Rep. Don Beyer said Donald Trump "abused his power" to hide his finances. A House committee published six years' worth of Trump's tax returns on Friday after a years-long legal fight. Six years of Trump's personal and business tax returns were released by the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday. Beyer accused the former president of having "something to hide" as he refused to release tax documents as presidents since Nixon had done and fought Congress' attempts to access them. Beyer noted that tax laws in the US are "often inequitable, and that enforcement of them is often unjust."
